About the Event
Join us for a three-day intensive workshop on the fundamental principles of the Isadora Duncan dance technique. Guided by US-based Duncan dance artist Valerie Durham, MFA, the workshop will lead participants of all background levels through an experience of Isadora Duncan’s inspiring, creative, soulful and embodied dance work.
The Isadora Duncan technique is a modern dance form known for its use of breath, initiation from the heart center, musicality, personal expression and inspiration from ancient Greek and Renaissance art to find energetic, flowing and uplifting dance movements. Isadora Duncan was an 20th century American dance artist known as the “mother of modern dance” for her revolutionary approach to choreography, performance, technique and education.
Dance sessions will include technique classes with warm-up, barre routines, combinations and locomotor exercises, themed and guided improvisations, repertory studies, lecture and demonstrations with supporting material and visual aids.
